Tommy Hilfiger literally rocked the boat.
The designer staged a runway extravaganza aboard the decrepit Staten Island Ferry that SNL’s Colin Jost and alum Pete Davidson allegedly bought while “very stoned” and closed the show with a surprise performance by three members of the Wu-Tang Clan supported by Questlove on decks.
Decked out in Hilfiger-style tuxedos, Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Raekwon from the original Staten Island hip-hop collective leapt from their seats and launched into anthems including “CREAM” and “Ice Cream.”
The passengers went wild. When the rap trio weren’t filming, celebrity guests like Damson Idris, Brooke Shields, Jisoo, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Olympic gold medalists Suni Lee and Gabrielle Thomas, and Stray Kids’ Felix and Lee Know and Jost were popping in hits.
Later, the star-studded crowd sipped champagne and beer, ate pretzels, popcorn and ice cream and mingled with Hilfiger and his wife, Dee. The all-American designer has held his shows at NYC landmarks such as the Oyster Bar at Grand Central Station.
Jost, who teamed up with his former co-star and two investors to buy the MV John F. Kennedy for $280,000 in 2022, told Alexa he’s confident it will become a special place. Plans reportedly range from a comedy club and restaurant to a boutique cruise ship sailing between New York and Miami.
“I never thought of it as a money pit, except, you know, it costs money,” the Staten Island native told Alexa. “I always had faith that it would be something really fun. I thought tonight was really fun!”
He admitted that his relationship is loving. “Yes, we have to pay to park it! More than a car! It holds 40 cars and 5,000 people, so maybe that’s the equivalent of the brand.” The ship was pulled from Staten Island to Manhattan’s Pier 17 for the event.
Earlier in the evening, Idris, who is starring in the upcoming film ‘F1’ with Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton, said he loves being on the water. “I don’t know how to sail, but I know how to sit on a boat and look good and drink a cocktail.”
Aaron Gordon of the Denver Nuggets said learning to sail is on his bucket list. “I feel bad for the people who need the drama,” the power forward declared.
It turns out that one of the models may have needed medication.
“My fiancee is walking on the show and she gets seasick, so I’m excited to see how it goes for her,” said Schwarzenegger, who is an old salt.
“I grew up sailing all the time on Cape Cod with my family,” the actor said. “I wouldn’t put myself in charge of steering the sail, but I like it.”
Hilfiger’s spring designs were very flattering.
Models cruised down the aisle in coats, relaxed chinos, capri pants, cropped sweaters and shirt dresses in navy, bright red and crisp white.
Overall, it was smooth sailing.
